Besides him, there was another child in the family - his younger brother Bob. Harvey graduated from John Bowne High School, then entered the State University of New York at Buffalo.

After university, Weinstein began to engage in production activities. His first projects were organizing rock concerts in Buffalo in the 70s. Harvey worked with his brother Bob and Corky Burger under the Harvey & Corky Productions label. But both brothers dreamed of making films, and in the late 70s, with the money earned by organizing concerts, they opened a small, but independent company Miramax, which was named after the brothers' parents - Miriam and Max. Weinstein is a longtime supporter and member of the Democratic Party, including the campaigns of President Barack Obama and presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and John Kerry.
