October 17, 1926 - December 5, 2008 - American actress and entrepreneur.
She made her big screen debut in the 1950 motion picture Dead on Arrival. During the 1950s, she achieved success by playing tough and fearless women in B films. She starred in three 1956 films: Swamp Women, Gunslinger, and It Takes Over the World. For the next two years, she played a central role in the groundbreaking syndicated series Bait, which went down in television history as the first police drama to star a woman. Garland was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1955 for her role as a patient with leukemia in the TV series "Medic" .
In the 1960s, Garland was most active in television, appearing on dozens of different shows, including Trunk Smoke and The Fugitive. In 1964-1965 she starred with Bing Crosby on the ABC sitcom The Bing Crosby Show, which was canceled after one season. From 1969 to 1972, she starred on the CBS sitcom My Three Sons, playing the second wife of Fred McMurray. After graduation, Garland spent the next ten years playing guest roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Dr. Marcus Welby, Charlie's Angels, The Hart Spouses, Flamingo Road, Private Detective Magnum and Hotel ". From 1983 to 1987, she played the mother of Kate Jackson on the CBS series Scarecrow and Mrs. King. She has also starred as mothers in Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, Remington Steel, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Seventh Heaven. Garland has been married three times and has four children from her last marriage. In 1972, she and her husband built the Beverly Garland's Holiday Inn and remained an active board member until her death. The hotel was later taken over by her son. They also built a hotel in Sacramento, but sold it in the mid-1980s.
Garland died Garland in her 1959 home in the Hollywood Hills. A memorial service was held at her hotel, where several hundred people were present. Garland's home was sold in May 2010 for $ 1.865 million.
