Born April 1, 1953, New York is an American film director, producer, actor and cameraman.

From an early age, the boy adored cinema and was much more likely to be seen in the cinema than in the lessons. In addition, the future director was fond of photography and as a student worked as a laboratory assistant. Barry Sonnenfeld earned his BA from Hampshire College, after which he entered the film school at New York University and graduated in 1978.

Following this success, the brothers Joel and Ethan Coen, former classmates of Barry Sonnenfeld, invited him as a cameraman for their new work - the crime thriller Blood Simple. The film was a great success and won several awards, including the Audience Award at the International Fantastic Film Festival in Portugal. Blood Simple was the first collaboration between the Coen brothers and Barry Sonnenfeld, and they later worked together on the comedies Raising Arizona and Miller's Crossing.

Barry Sonnenfeld also directed the comedy Throw Mom Off the Train, starring Danny DeVito, and the family melodrama Big, starring Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins. He has also worked on the films Exactly 3:00, When Harry Met Sally and Double Trouble. Barry's last cinematography was the thriller Misery, starring James Caan and Katie Bates.

In 1991, Barry Sonnenfeld directed his first film director. His debut was the black comedy The Addams Family, based on the TV series of the same name in the 60s. The film was well received by audiences, nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Costumes" and a Golden Globe for Best Actress (Angelica Houston). In 1993, a continuation of the story about a peculiar family was published - the comedy "The Addams Family Values". This film has also been nominated for prestigious awards, including an Oscar, Golden Globe and British Film Academy Award (BAFTA).

Barry Sonnenfeld's next directorial work was the comedy "Get the Shorty". John Travolta, Danny DeVito, Rene Russo and Gene Hackman played the main roles in this film. The film was a great success and won a Golden Globe for Best Actor (Musical or Comedy).

In 1997 the fantastic comedy Men in Black was released, which became one of the most successful projects of Barry Sonnenfeld. The film was based on the comics of Lowell Cannigum, and starred Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. In 2002, the comedy Men in Black 2 was released, and ten years later the third part of the series appeared.

Barry Sonnenfeld also directed the films Wild, Wild West, Big Trouble, Madhouse on Wheels. He is also known as a producer: among his most successful projects are the fairy tale films Enchanted and Lemony Snicket: 33 Misfortunes.
