Born July 1, 1960, Lund, Skane, Sweden is a Swedish film director, screenwriter and actor based in Hollywood.

Mikael began his film studies in the capital of Sweden, and continued to learn the basics in New York, where he created most of his films.

Hofstrom's directorial debut took place in 1989 in Sweden, when Mikael shot the crime television film "Roland Hassel polis - Terrorns finger". The film was inspired by the autobiography of the Swedish writer and journalist Jan Guillau, on the basis of which the director created the script. The film was highly appreciated by critics and drew attention to a young but very talented director.

In 2004, Evil won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and actor Andreas Wilson was awarded the Gold Cup for Best Actor at the Shanghai Film Festival. After that he worked on the horror film Spirit of the Drowned Man. The next film directed by the director was "The Price of Treason", which Hofstrom filmed in the United States. The dramatic thriller premiered in the fall of 2005, and the movie appeared on cinemas in 2006 with a warning that people under 17 can only attend a show with their parents. The action-packed film is based on the novel "Derailed" by James Siegel, who wrote the script for this film. In the image of the "bad guys" you can see the famous Vincent Cassel and the rapper IxZibit, and the main role was played by Jennifer Aniston (best known for the TV series "Friends"). The next brainchild of the director was the film "1408" based on the story of the same name by Stephen King in 2007. The thriller has several alternate endings in the director's and distribution's cut, as the original ending proved too depressing for the audience in test screenings of the film.

In 2010 Mikael worked on the detective film "Shanghai", in which the famous actor John Cusack asked for the main role. And the next year, inspired by Matt Baglio's The Making of a Modern Exorcist, Hofstrom releases Rite on the dark side of the spirit world. For the main role, the director invited Anthony Hoppkins, whose type, like no other, matched the image of the teacher of dark forces - father Lucas Trevent. The last work to date was the movie "Escape Plan", released in 2013.
