July 31, 1947, Thornaby-on-Tees — March 28, 2013, Coventry is a British theater, film and television actor.

As a child, he repeatedly tried to escape from home. At 15, he dropped out of Our Lady & St. Bede worked as a loader for a while, but his boss eventually convinced him to return to school. He continued his studies at Stockton & Billingham College. Then he continued his education in the field of dramatic art at the Manchester Polytechnic School of Drama.

After graduation, Griffiths got a job with BBC Radio. He also worked in small theaters.

In the end, Richard settled in Manchester and began to receive leading roles in performances. Subsequently, he began appearing on television, and then made his big break in the film "This Shouldn't Have Happened to the Veterinarian" (1975) based on the novel by James Harriott.

In 1982, he appeared in the Oscar-winning film Gandhi as Collins.

In 2001, he appeared in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as the cruel and vicious Uncle Vernon Dursley. He also played this character in the other parts.

In 2011, he played the role of King George II in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
