Born June 6, 1954, Brooklyn, New York is an American playwright, actor, screenwriter, television and voiceover.

The boy was brought up in the spirit of conservative Judaism, but he preferred the path of atheism. Close relatives very favorably accepted the recognition of 13-year-old Harvey that he is interested in representatives of his gender, since from childhood they saw that he gravitates towards girls' toys.

After graduating from grade 9 of high school, Fierstin attended the high school of art and design for three years; Graduated from the Pratt Institute with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1973; first appeared on the stage at the La MaMa Experimental Theater Club.

Success came to Firestin overnight: in 1982 the premiere of the play "Sentimental Song" based on his play took place. This production earned him two Tony awards, two Drama Desk awards, a World Theater Award, and the film adaptation of this work (6 years later) - an Independent Spirit Award.

Being gay, "opened" much earlier than most celebrities. He began his career with performances in the stand-up genre, often performing in the form of a "drag queen".

In 1983, he first appeared as a voice actor (voice of a demon in the television movie "The Demon Murder Case"), the following year made his debut on the wide screen (the role of Bernie Whitlock in the comedy "Garbo Tells").

In 2002, the 40-page book The Sissy Duckling for children aged 5-8 was published, written by Fierstin. This book was written by him based on the cartoon of the same name in 2000, in which Fierstin acted as a screenwriter and voiced the main role.

In 2007, Harvey Firestin was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.

In 2013 called for a boycott of the Sochi Olympics because of anti-gay laws in Russia.
