Born September 24, 1957, Kalispell, Montana is an American film director, screenwriter and cartoonist.

Having been at the age of eleven at the Walt Disney studio during one of the excursions, he set out to become one of its animation staff. The boy comes to study at the studio at the age of 14, having managed to independently create his first cartoon. One of the studio's best animators, Milt Kahl, takes the talented boy as an apprentice. Subsequently, the studio will provide Byrd with the funds needed to study at the California Institute of the Arts, founded by Walt Disney specifically to train aspiring animators. During his studies, Bird meets John Lasseter, who in the future will become one of the founders of the Pixar studio.

After graduating from the institute, Bird worked for a while at a Disney studio, but soon decided to start an independent voyage. Success does not come to a novice animator immediately. Only in 1999, with the release of the full-length cartoon "Steel Giant", the director first became famous. The film, which the director created for Warner Bros., was highly praised by critics, but the audience did not like it.

Very highly appreciated the work of Byrd and John Lasseter, who invited Byrd to take part in the cartoon The Incredibles (2004). In the film released in 2004, Bird acted not only as a director, but also as the only screenwriter. Bird thus becomes the first to be entrusted by Pixar with independent script writing. The cartoon grossed over $ 600 million at the box office, becoming one of the company's most commercially successful projects in its entire history. For the same cartoon in 2005, the director received his first Oscar.

The colossal success of The Incredibles allows the director to get his hands on another very interesting project - Ratatouille (2007). Better than Bird, hardly anyone else could have brought to mind the unfinished picture of the previous director. The film, which grossed 620 million at the box office, becomes one of the leaders of the 2007 film distribution. The second film in three years brings the director a second Oscar.
