Born January 11, 1971, Yonkers, New York is an American R&B, soul and hip-hop singer, songwriter, record producer and actress.

Blige began to storm the charts in 1991 and 1992 with hip-hop soul music produced for her by Puff Daddy. Subsequently, it evolved towards a more mainstream soul. The greatest success of the 1990s was for her the track "Not Gon 'Cry" written by Babeface, which was included in the soundtrack and sounded in the film "Waiting to Exhale" with Whitney Houston in the title role. The recording was included in the tracklist of The Breakthrough, which was released in the same 2005 and became multi-platinum.

In 2012, she was nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Song category for The Living Proof for The Servant.

In 2017 she played a supporting role in the film Farm "Mudbound". For her, she received nominations for the "Sputnik", "Golden Globe" and "Oscar" awards for Best Supporting Actress. For the song Mighty River, written for this film, she received nominations for the Golden Globe and Oscars.
