Born January 1, 1946, Turin, Italy - Italian costume designer.
She studied art and fashion history in Genoa. Shortly thereafter, she moved to England, where she began working in small theaters and film productions. While designing costumes for advertising in London, she met many directors.
Her first major work as a costume designer was A Clockwork Orange, directed by Stanley Kubrick (1971). She also worked with Kubrick in Barry Lyndon (1975), for which she won her first Oscar. The second time she received a statuette for the film "Chariots of Fire" (1981), directed by Hugh Hudson.
Canonero has also designed costumes for several productions for director Otto Schenk.
In 1986-1987, she designed costumes for the TV series Miami Police.
In 2001, Milena Canonero was awarded a Career Achievement Award from the Costume Designers Guild. Canonero won her third Oscar for the costume design for the biographical drama Marie Antoinette (2006), and the fourth for the costumes in the film The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014).
Milena Canonero is an Oscar, BAFTA, David di Donatello laureate.
