Michael Bloomfield is an American musician, composer and guitarist who became one of the earliest stars of the sixties.
Michael Bernard Bloomfield was born on July 28, 1943 in Chicago to a wealthy Jewish family. From an early age Michael was not interested in the family restaurant business, but preferred music lessons. As a teenager, he spent a lot of time in Chicago blues clubs, where he studied guitar with famous black bluesmen. There he also met Paul Butterfield and Elvin Bishop, who opened their own small blues club, where Michael's first performance took place. Bloomfield was discovered by legendary Columbia Records scout producer John Hammond, who signed him to the label.
In 1964, Michael formed his first collective, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, in which his old friends played. Their wild, electric Chicago blues have inspired a generation of musicians. But soon Bloomfield got tired of the heavy touring schedule and moved to San Francisco, where he created his second musical brainchild, The Electric Flag.
The group was conceived as a mix of the best musical directions. The Electric Flag played together for the first time in 1967 at the Monterey Pop Festival, after which they released a critically acclaimed album. However, the group soon disbanded due to the rivalry between the musicians, the shortsightedness of the manager, and drug abuse.
At the same time, films with Michael Bloomfield were released with musical accompaniment, his composing works can be heard in such tapes as Cold Eye, Bad.
After the band's disbandment, Bloomfield continued his solo career, performing actively from 1969 to 1980. His first solo album It's not killing me was released in 1969, and there are nine records in the musician's collection.
Bloomfield was also a session musician and was widely recognized for his work with Bob Dylan. And the roles of Michael Bloomfield in the movies were autobiographical, he appeared in such films as The Festival, Get Started, Set Up, March!
