Born February 3, 1956, Jersey City, New Jersey, USA - American theater, film and voice actor.

While still in school, the boy discovered his acting talent: in the Jesuit preparatory school of St. Peter's (St. Peter's Preparatory School), in particular, he received the 1974 Best Actor award.

Together with his brother Daniel, Joseph went to St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia. There they learned that his acting scholarship would not be enough for living and studying. They had to return home and immediately upon returning, Joseph registered with the actors' union. He changed his name to Nathan, after Nathan Detroit, a character in the hit musical Boys and Dolls. Soon after that, not Joseph, but Nathan Lane moved to New York, where, after much work, he was still able to launch his acting career. It all began with performances in stand-up comedy shows with Patrick Stack, and then in off-Broadway productions in a number of local theaters. In 1982, Lane made his Broadway debut in a revived version of Noel Coward's production of This Laughter; for his role as Roland Maul in this production, he was nominated for the Drama Desk Prize.

Nathan appeared on Broadway for the second time in 1983, in a rather unsuccessful box-office production of Merlin with Chita Rivera and Doug Henning.

In 1992 Nathan Lane got into the next version of the musical "Guys and Dolls". Playing the same Nathan Detroit from whom he once borrowed the name, earned him nominations for "Tony", "Drama Desk" and the "Outer Critics Circle Awards".

Nathan worked quite actively with his close friend, screenwriter Terrence McNally. After a number of Broadway productions, he met Stephen Sondheim. They worked together for the first time in Assassins and Sages. Sondheim and Lane will meet again in 2004, while working on the musical "Frogs" in the center of Lincoln. Stephen even wrote a song for Nathan, which he sang in the movie Bird Cage. This film earned Lane a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical.

McNally and Sondheim's plays didn't stop there - Lane played in a variety of off-Broadway productions of the time, including Measure for Measure, The Common Pursuit and The Film Society.

By the end of the 90s, Lane already had such films as "Frankie and Johnny", "The Addams Family Values", "Mouse Hunt" etc.

Nathan Lane wins second Tony Award for his lead role in The Producers (he won the first for Funny Accident on the Way to the Forum). He also acted as a replacement for Richard Dreyfuss in 2004, which earned him the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

In 2005, the film "Producers" is released - a film adaptation of the musical, where Nathan played earlier. His partner in the musical, Matthew Broderick, also starred in the film. For this role, Lane receives a second Golden Globe nomination.

Nathan received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006 for his contributions to the film industry. Her number is 6801.

After Lane has appeared in several films, including "Sober" and "The Nutcracker and the Rat King." In 2012, the film "Snow White: Revenge of the Dwarfs" was released, where the actor played one of the main roles - Brighton - the Queen's devoted servant.
