For several decades he played in television series, starred in commercials and in films, while his name remained practically unknown.
In 1983, Milos Forman invited him to play Antonio Salieri in the historical film Amadeus, and for this role, F. Murray Abraham was awarded the prestigious Academy Award .
After this unexpected breakthrough, villains of the Salieri type began to prevail in the actor's works ("The Name of the Rose", "The Last Movie Hero").
